The Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) has presented its 2019 Chairman’s Award of Recognition to Sam Cutruzzola, president of Brampton, Ont.-based Inzola Construction Inc.

The award was created in 1990 to honour individuals who have been affiliated with the association and have made an outstanding contribution to the general contracting industry.

A past chair of the association, Cutruzzola has served on the OGCA board of directors for more than 20 years.

“He has (also) volunteered on countless committees to address our industry’s issues,” said Raymondo Mollica, president of Remo General Contracting Ltd. of Brampton, who nominated Cutruzzola for the award.

“Sam has always promoted our association; he was one of the main reasons I joined the board in 2012, added Mollica, the OGCA’s newly elected chair.

“He is extremely respected. The Chairman’s Award reinforces his legacy of leadership, commitment and integrity in our industry and our association.”

To qualify for the award, individuals must have contributed to the general contracting industry in general and the OGCA specifically through their involvement on the board of directors and standing or ad hoc committees.

Candidates must also be currently employed by an OGCA member firm and have been in a senior management capacity in the industry for at least 10 years.

However, consideration will also be given to those who have retired from a member firm.

Cutruzzola, who served as OGCA chair in 2013/2014, said receiving the award “was a shock and completely unexpected.

“It is both an honour and a privilege to receive the award, especially considering the class of past recipients and the dedication, commitment and contribution each has made to the industry.”

Cutruzzola, who graduated with honours from the construction technician program at George Brown College in 1978 and is Gold Seal certified, has been at Inzola ever since, progressing up the ranks.

A longtime advocate of involvement in association activities, he believes that such engagement is paramount to the success and future growth of the construction industry.

“I can only hope that any small contribution that I was able to make through my involvement in the OGCA over the years has helped in this regard.”

Cutruzzola said he believes the times are changing “and the construction industry is changing with the times, representing new challenges.

“We have to be grateful for the many knowledgeable, committed and passionate leaders we have in the industry today and the interest and involvement of the next generation which will ensure that we have a safe, strong and healthy industry for years to come.”

The award was presented during the association’s recent 81st annual general meeting and conference in Muskoka.
